National embarrassment

Good grief. I just found out from a commentor on the Education In Malaysia blog (see this story for background) that Malaysia was featured in Nature back in 2005. And not in a good way.

I know it's too easy to blame everything on the government...but that's because it is too easy. The idea of Ketuanan Melayu is a load of crap (as any idea of the supremacy of a particular ethnic group is, especially in a country with ethnic miniorities this big), and the resulting policies and practices are doing as much good for our country's progress as a pair of lead boots to a swimmer.
